Lightweight Panels - Options
QuoteReply

Curious on what panel products are currently being used for closets that are lightweight. Standard melamine and some most plywoods tend to be extremely heavy. Demanding when applications are large, high up, on 2nd-3rd stories in a house, etc. What are some lightweight options?

I think there is little doubt that we would see a wider range of lightweight panel options if the economy hadn't gone south. I believe products are available from OFC in Iowa. To find other sources, contact Hettich America, which just came out with a catalog on lightweight panels' potential or Stiles Machinery.

Thank you. I have also heard about FOAMKORE which is a foam or polystyrene core with different wood faces and finishes. Seems like folks are using them on a range of applications and having good results. I think the company is Kerfcore or Interior Products Inc. I will look into both. Please offer additional feedback or suggestions if you have them.

Aluminum can be a good material. It can hold heavy load and can look nice.
