Project: This 71-1/2-square-foot closet area used to be a master suite sitting area, which was then converted into another master closet.

Notes: Our goal was to provide the homeowner her dream closet, yet increase her storage needs, and to provide a make-up area in her closet versus the bathroom. It was a challenge. We had to make sure we allowed for the proper height spacing in the hanging areas—the homeowner was quite tall and she also hung all her pants lengthwise —to make sure she had a vanity area. The wardrobe inventory had 5 feet of long hang, 16 feet of short hang, 16 feet of medium hang. There were also 95 pairs of shoes, 20 pairs of boots at various heights, 30 purses and a lot of folded items.

The closet exteriors were constructed of stained cherry veneers on plywood. The doors are solid cherry mortise frame construction with raised recessed panel centers. All interior components behind doors are finished with sandalwood stain to match the cherry exteriors. All drawer boxes are solid maple wood with clear finish. Drawer fronts are solid cherry frame construction with flat recessed panels and applied moulding. All open shelves are cherry veneer on plywood stained to match. Traditional large crown moulding is included. There are no backs on the units.
